Who is Tree Biotechnology Programme Trust ?
TBPT is a technology transfer partnership for the adoption of clonal forestry in East Africa with an aim of increasing forest cover in the region by providing quality planting material particularly at the farmlands and to address domestic wood deficiency at household level.
TBPT has embarked on an initiative to enhance capacity in clonal forestry for community based technology diffusion for increased access of elite tree varieties through self-employment, motivation and market based incentives in support to the rural development initiatives and environmental conservation at community level.
Tree improvement programmes globally are based on good management of naturally accruing genetic traits, manipulation of ecosystem and use of scientific tools to meet the diverse and increasing need of mankind. The genetic of forest trees have much more in common with that of human than most crop plant species.
This is borne credence by the central role trees have played in the long history of humanity. From creation to the present in all sphere of human development be it social, economic, political or /and cultural.
